Thyroid gland is included in every single function of our organism. It needs to function properly so that our organism remains healthy and all of it functions normal.
Thyroid gland is important because it produces hormones that regulate body functions. The normal functioning of thyroid gland can be affected by different reasons. This usually manifests with seeded up or slowed down functioning.
When thyroid gland is working faster it produces increased amounts of hormones and our organism deals with a condition called hyperthyroidism. If it function is slowed down then the amount of hormones is lower than needed and it is a condition called hypothyroidism.
The disorders of this kind cause serious disorders in the organism and lead to health disorders of all kinds. But symptoms of hypo or hyperthyroidism can be suppressed only with avoiding few kinds of foods.
WHAT NOT TO EAT IF YOU SUFFER FROM HYPERTHYROIDISM
Iodine rich food
Avoid food rich in iodine such as sea algae and sea food of all kinds that are rich in this mineral. Remove salt that is enriched with iodine as a part of your healthy therapy.
Full fat milk
Full fat milk is harder to digest and therefore chose skimmed milk which will be easier on your digestive organs.
White refined flour is much harder to digest and has high glycemic index. This means that it can disturb the levels of sugar and hormones in the blood. Don’t eat white bread, pastry, pasta or oatmeal. Replace them with whole grain cereal as brown rice, barley or quinoa because food with low glycemic index will improve the levels of hormones of thyroid gland in the blood.
Red meat is rich in fats and it will be better if you replace it with low fat turkey white meat and fish.
You need to avoid dairy products as milk, cheese, and yogurt, ice cream especially if hyperthyroidism is linked to lactose intolerance, and your organism has difficulties in digesting them.
WHAT NOT TO EAT IF YOU SUFFER FROM HYPOTHYROIDISM
These kinds of food interfere with iodine uptake in the thyroid gland and the absorption of the mineral from the blood. Some of foods with this effect are mallet, mustard, broccoli, spinach, horseradish, radicchio and similar.
Soy as well as soy products can affect of the production of hormones of thyroid gland. You need to also remove completely chocolate and energy bars that are rich in soy lecithin. All those foods can prevent the production of hormones of thyroid gland.
Gluten rich food
Barley, wheat, rye and refined products made from these grains contain gluten and it is recommended to reduce their use especially if your thyroid gland function is slowed. Also reduce the amount of broccoli and Brussels sprouts.
Fast food of all kinds slows down the production of thyroid hormones and it also ruins your overall health and it is good to remove it from your menu permanently.
Some fruits like peaches, pears and strawberries are also slowing down the production of thyroid hormones and it is good to avoid them or at least try to lower the amounts you eat.
